Here is the official press-release from 7th February:
"Counterfeit©÷" is the second in Martin L. Gore's counterfeit cover version series and, like his first Counterfeit release in 1989, it is a wildly diverse and passionate collection. The new album sees Gore radically rework eleven tracks, originally made famous by the likes of Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, Kurt Weill, John Lennon, Brian Eno and David Essex.
Recorded over the last 18 months at his home studio, Gore revisits and reinvents songs which have touched him deeply over the years. The tracks range from sultry 21st Century blues to achingly lovely sci-fi lullabies; sublime alt-country crooners to engrossing electronic torch songs. A glittering haul of buried treasure, their only guiding spirit being the visceral emotional attachment felt by Martin towards them.
"I really wanted to get across a fan's perspective," says Martin. "There is something about the songs I like that somehow gives the album a thread. Deep emotions, I suppose. There has to be a personal connection

3 February : Depeche are currently putting together a compilation of remixes, tentatively set for a fall 2003 release. The band is currently going through hundreds of tapes to find out what would be the perfect line-up for the tracklisting. In a recent interview with Side Line magazine, Fletch said that they "have around 130 remixes plus new remixes that are being made. And we'll have to go through all that. It's about 12 CD's!". At the present time the remix compilation is said to include anywhere from 2 to 4 discs.

During their rendition of "Walking In My Shoes", the video screen flashed pictures of Martin dressed in Ziggy Stardust garb (with the Aladdin Sane lightning bolt makeup).

Lately, most of the news are coming from the cover-scene. Now it is Stone The Crow turn. This german powermetal band has People Are People on their forthcoming album "Reduce To The Max". The cover is typical rock-song in music style, as it written below. The odd thing is playing with the word "awfully" in phrase "People are people so why should it be You and I should get along so awfully". You can vote for this song in our mp3 poll area (via mediapage), if you want to hear it there.

Stone The Crow
Stone The Crow is german rock-power-metal band. This album will be their third one. About they music style the singer Marc is saying (as we translated from German):" In my life I have three milestones - Depeche Mode, Alice In Chains and Machine Head. Somewhere inbetween lays for me Stone The Crow, with all the melody and all the strength. The other bandmembers milestones are NIN, Massive Attack and Smashing Pumpkins. Our sound is in the middle". As we can see on the photo, the lead singer has Dave-Barrel-of-a-Gun look :)

1 November : From the interview with Shakira (The Observer, July 14 2002) : "Soon before her 13th birthday she had yet another flash of near-religious inspiration while listening to Depeche Mode's "Enjoy The Silence": it was the sound of the electric guitar played with an intensity she'd never heard before. It sent her into a near orgasmic spasm. She told her mother she was going to make music like this, that she was going be a rock'n'roller and not a pop singer. Her mum, now well-versed in her daughter's inspirational visions, started to shell out for the back catalogues of Led Zeppelin, The Cure and Janis Joplin."

There's a couple of people I want to thank, especially Daniel Miller, from Mute records whose constantly inspired us to do new things. And there is Anton Corbjin, who is responsible for some of that stuff, who's up there as well, yeah (laughs) some of that great stuff. So thanks alot.Cheers."

Johnny Cash
Johny Cash is considered one of the most influential figures in country music. The distinctive sound of his percussive guitar and deep baritone voice never resembled Nashville, honky tonk or rock'n'roll. His own music genre is somewhere between the emotional honesty of folk, rock & roll rebel and the worldweariness of country. His career started together with the birth of rock'n'roll. Born in Arkansas, USA in 1932, he always had a deep sense of history, illustrated with series of historical albums which made him one of country music's biggest stars of the '50s and '60s, scoring well over 100 hit singles.
